Cairo University gives PhD degrees in Mass Communication based on the demand of the faculty of Mass Communication in one of the following majors:

Journalism

Radio and Television

Public Relations and Advertising

Required documents for registration in PhD degrees in MassCommunication are the following:

First: Egyptians:

1-      Bachelor certificate either BA or BSc

2-      Birth certificate

3-      Master certificate

4-      TOEFL certificate with a score of 500 or over from the language center in the faculty of Arts at Cairo University

5-      Submitting 3 copies of proposals

6-      Military status (for males)

7-      (6) personal photos

8-      Admission form

Second: Expats:

1-      Bachelor certificate either BA or BSc (overall grade + subject grades), approved from the ministry of foreign affairs

2-      Birth certificate

3-      Master certificate

4-      TOEFL certificate with a score of 500 or over from the language center in the faculty of Arts at Cairo University

5-      Copy of valid passport

6-      Health certificate proving that you are not HIV/AIDS certificate

7-      Embassy letter

8-      (10) personal photos

Procedures for admission in Mass Communication PhD:

1-      The student must have Master’s degree in the field Mass communication with least grade “good” from one of the Egyptian universities or equivalent degree.

2-      The student should submit a request form to register the research topic in the name of the faculty’s dean. Then, it’s shown to the faculty council after being approved by the department council. PhD Expats must stay after registration for at least two years in Egypt, and the faculty council exempt the student from half of the two-year period, if the research topic requires that.

3-      The student must do an innovative research approved in the post graduate and research council of the university based on the approval of the faculty council and the suggestion of department council, in a period of two years at least from the time of faculty council approval on registration. The time period must not exceed four years, and the faculty council can grant two additional years as an exception for compelling reasons approved by faculty council based on a report from the PhD supervisor, and approval of relevantdepartment council

4-      The researcher must submit the results of his research in one of five copies from the dissertation with temporary cover accepted by the referee committee.The PhD dissertation defense has to be public. The PhD degree is not granted until the researcher accomplishes the major amendments required by the referee committee and approved by the supervisor.

5-       The PhD degree in MassCommunication is granted in one of the following grades:

-         PhD in Mass Communication with the first honor degree with a recommendation to print the dissertation at the expense of Egyptian and foreign universities.

-         PhD degree in Mass  Communication with the first honor degree
