Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University issues aguide to the abstracts of theses

Under the patronage of Prof. DrHowaida Mostafa, Dean of the Faculty, the Faculty of Mass Communication, andCairo University issued a guide to the abstracts of scientific theses that wereaccomplished in the faculty during ten years (2009-2018) in two parts. Thefirst part is for master’s theses abstracts in the three scientific departments(press - radio and television - public relations and advertising). Whether thesecond part includes doctoral theses abstracts in the three departments aswell.

The Vice Dean for Graduate Studiesissued the guide under the supervision of Prof. Heba Allah Al-Samri, the ViceDean for Postgraduate Studies and Research. In addition, Prof. Dr Laila AbdelMeguid, Academic Director of the Quality Unit and former Dean of the Collegesupervised and reviewed the guide.

The guide is a comprehensive,summarized bibliography and analytical study of media research trends in Egypt.It includes (677) master's and doctoral theses abstracts completed by thefaculty researchers during the last ten years, including (315) messages fromthe Radio and Television Department, (217) messages from the JournalismDepartment, and (145) theses from the Journalism Department as well as amessage from the Public Relations and Advertising Department.

The analytical study dealt withseveral criteria, namely research interests, research problems discussed ineach discipline, countries that were studied, theoretical frameworks, researchmethods, communities of each study and samples, besides, data collection tools.

Participated in collecting study materialfor the guide Dr Salma Shaheen, Mervat Abdel Hamid, Abeer Yahya Selim, HodaHussein, Nihad Fathi, and artistic productions by Yahya Selim and Ahmed Fikri.

This work is a continuation of theproject started by the faculty in 2009 by issuing six volumes of master’s anddoctoral theses that the faculty accomplished in the three scientificdepartments (press, radio and television, public relations and advertising) atthe college from 1975 until 2008.

This guide aims to document thefaculty’s research production, facilitate researchers and maximize theirbenefit from this huge scientific effort. In addition, it assists thecapitalism of research policies and plans in the other faculties of MassCommunication by providing validated data.

Therefore, the faculty plans toprepare bibliographic documentation and analysis to research published in thequarterly scientific journal issued by the faculty for more than a quarter of acentury, which is called “the Egyptian Journal of Media Research”.
