This morning, the Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University, organized an orientation day for the new academic year for new students under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, President of Cairo University and Prof. Dr. Hanan Junaid, Dean of the Faculty Mass Communication, and Dr. Salwa Al-Awadly, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, in the presence of the college leaders and a number of its professors and college administrators, as well as old students from all the departments and special programs.
At the beginning, Dr. Hanan Junaid, MCCU’s Dean delivered a welcome speech in which she expressed her great pleasure in meeting the students of the new academic year. She explained that the Faculty had recently obtained the renewal of the ISO certificates in the sectors of administration and educational organization affairs, noting that the Faculty had recently obtained international accreditation several months ago from the German AQAS Foundation for its study programs, which demonstrates the academic excellence of the Faculty.
The Dean indicated that the college’s students, regardless of the graduation date of their batches over the past years, are distinguished in aspects of study and student activities and are a sign of distinction and brilliance within the framework of media training talents.
During her speech, Prof. Dr. Salwa Al-Awadly, MCCU’s Vice Dean, expressed her happiness at receiving students for the new academic year, noting that studying at the Faculty is a tool that is enhanced by training and developing students’ skills by harnessing all of the Faculty’s laboratories and studios to train students and qualify them for the labor market, in cooperation with all departments and cooperation partners from media institutions that always welcome training for students.
The Faculty’s Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs noted that university life for students should not be limited only to the study aspect only, but rather it goes beyond that to students taking the initiative and participating in the activities of the Youth Welfare Department and participating in the Student Union elections in a manner that establishes the idea of democratic participation and decision-making.
In her speech, Prof. Dr. Wessam Nasr, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies and Research, pointed out that students of the Faculty of Mass Communication always prove after graduation that they are among the best elements in media practices in various media outlets and in preparing scientific research, noting that the students’ journey at the Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University must include interest in the research aspect. The academic field aims to produce research and studies in the field of media, which requires attention to the subject of media research methods, which is a necessary basis for qualifying students in the post-graduation stage of the bachelor’s program to the stage of applying for master’s and doctoral degrees in the fields of media and its branches in journalism, radio and television, public relations and advertising.
The head of the department pointed out that the departments of the College of Media, including the Department of Public Relations and Advertising, contribute strongly to developing students’ skills in accordance with the labor market and preparing distinguished graduates in all aspects of media and professional work, explaining that the students of the College of Media are distinguished cadres in the scientific and ethical aspects, and that the student of the College of Media He should strive to take advantage of his opportunity as a university student to invest in participating in all activities that contribute to supporting his opportunity upon graduation by developing his skills and refining his talents.
For her part, Prof. Dr. Thuraya Ahmed Al-Badawi, Professor and Head of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising, gave a comprehensive presentation about the Department and the distinguished cognitive and applied experiences it provides. She explained that the study at the Faculty integrates theoretical study with practical applications, which contribute to refining students’ skills and developing their thinking abilities and aspects of innovation. She called on students of the Faculty of Information to pay attention to university activities and not limit university life to study only.
Prof. Dr. Ashraf Galal, Head of the Department of Radio and Television, pointed out that the MCCU’s student is an example to be emulated among the rest of the students at other faculties of Mass Communication, calling on students to pay attention to attending lectures of academic subjects and to pay attention to learning about and participating in all university activities. He noted that the Department through its recently approved study programs and the television station seeks to provide training experiences equivalent to 140 training hours to students.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Youssef, Professor in the Department of Public Relations, gave a speech in which he explained the history of the Faculty. He explained that the pioneering faculty that produced many batches and generations of Students throughout its history, has become a symbol of all its current and old professors, who are used by state institutions as media advisors with all their professional and academic experience.
During his speech, Prof. Dr. Mehrez Ghali, coordinator of the Television Journalism Program said that the Faculty always seeks to keep pace with the needs of its graduates in the future. He noted that the Department of Journalism in the introduced several new programs during the new academic year to qualify its graduates, including the Television Journalism Program, and the print and digital journalism program.
In turn, Prof. Dr. Awatef Abdel Rahman, Professor in the Department of Journalism, said that university studies are part of students’ university life and that the matter requires students to know their rights and duties in university life. She called on students to pay attention to the fields of study in addition to cultural, artistic and other university activities.
Prof. Dr. Ahmed Khattab concluded the speech of the professors of the celebration platform by welcoming the students by emphasizing that they are representatives of the faculty and its ambassadors inside and outside the corridors of the college, calling on the students to invest their university life in what is beneficial in developing their intellectual, emotional, and scientific side.
The orientation day included a singing performance by the Al-Jawala at the Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University, followed by the handing over of a special award from the band to the Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication to celebrate the start of university studies.
